What is Shadow AI, Really?
In the relentless race for productivity, your employees have discovered a superpower. With a personal email and about 30 seconds, they can sign up for a world-class AI tool that promises to summarize, create, and debug faster than ever before. There’s no help desk ticket, no procurement process. But this seemingly harmless shortcut has a name: “Shadow AI.”
It’s the next frontier of shadow IT, describing any AI application used within an organization without any official oversight from the IT or security teams. And while it might be a sign of a proactive workforce, it’s also a massive blind spot for most leaders, creating a landscape of terrifying new risks.
The Well-Intentioned Problem
